The food of Oaxaca reflects its cultural wealth and its ancestral traditions. At Raíz Hotel Boutique we set out to offer a genuine culinary experience that connects our guests with the flavours of this region. Our traditional Oaxacan breakfast is a celebration of local ingredients, recipes passed down through generations and a love of Mexican cooking. If you're looking for where to have breakfast in Puerto Escondido, here are some of our morning delights.
Traditional Oaxacan dishes at Raíz Hotel
Breakfast at Raíz Hotel is served from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. If you're a guest, the dishes are included, with the exception of a few premium items.
Coloradito mole enchiladas
One of the traditional Oaxacan dishes that can't be missing from our menu is enchiladas with coloradito mole. This mole, distinctive for its balance between sweet and spiced, wraps tortillas filled with chicken and is served with fresh cheese and cream, creating an unforgettable combination of flavours.
Comal-cooked eggs
This dish is a treat for anyone after a nourishing, genuine breakfast. It is served in a deep dish with eggs cooked on the comal, fresh cheese, cream and a special touch of hoja santa, a distinctive Oaxacan ingredient that brings a unique aroma and flavour. It comes with plantain and peas, creating an unbeatable combination of textures and tastes.
Pancakes with tejate
If you'd rather something sweet, our pancakes are the perfect choice. What makes them special is a layer of tejate, a pre-Hispanic drink made from maize and cacao that brings an unmatched flavour. You can also pair your breakfast with a traditional tejate or a delicious Oaxacan chocolate, served with water or milk, as is the custom in Oaxaca.
Traditional infusions: poleo tea
Poleo is a herb widely used in Oaxaca for its digestive properties and its refreshing taste. At Raíz we serve infusions of this herb to round out your breakfast in a healthy, traditional way.
Sourdough bread with homemade jam
An artisanal touch had to be part of our breakfast. We serve a slice of sourdough bread with homemade jam and a little butter. This bread is also used in dishes such as the avocado crown and the salmon toast, ideal options for anyone who likes a light, refined breakfast.
Snacks and cocktails inspired by Oaxaca
If breakfast turns into brunch, or you simply want to try something more, our menu also offers ceviche, guacamole, shrimp tacos and shrimp skewers, prepared with fresh ingredients from the Oaxaca coast. Snacks are available from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Round off the experience with our signature cocktails, each with a touch of Oaxacan culture:
- Brebaje
- Donaji
- Naila
- Santa Ana
- Jardín Secreto
- Café de la Abuela
These cocktails are made with ingredients native to Oaxaca, bringing out the flavours and aromas that make this region unique. If you'd like to know more about our drinks and the mezcal tradition, read our article "Mezcal culture on the beach: discover mezcal at Raíz Hotel Boutique".
The bar is open from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm, so you can enjoy these cocktails in a relaxed setting by the sea.
