Getting between the cities:
Mexico City to Oaxaca
The fastest way is to fly from Mexico City International Airport to Oaxaca; there are direct flights of about 1 hour. Several airlines operate the route: Aeroméxico, Volaris and Viva Aerobus. The flight costs between 50 and 100 USD each way depending on the season.
If you'd rather go for a more adventurous and cheaper option, you can take a bus from the city centre; the journey takes between 6 and 7 hours. The main bus lines are ADO, OCC and ETN.
Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido:
Plane: ideal for anyone who wants to save time and travel comfortably. Perfect for travellers who are short on time or would rather avoid long road journeys.
Bus: the cheapest and most efficient option thanks to the new motorway. Recommended for travellers who want comfort and don't want to worry about driving.
Car: perfect for the adventurous, who want to enjoy spectacular scenery and stop in places such as San José del Pacífico.
Puerto Escondido to Mexico City (return):
The best option for getting back to Mexico City from the Puerto Escondido coast is undoubtedly the plane, since the bus journey can stretch to 12 hours. If you have a connecting international flight, we always recommend flying into Mexico City International Airport (AICM).
